New clutch nv4500 noies when going from gear to gear in clutch
Installed a new clutch and it has a light chatter noise when shifting gear to next gear. Its in the clutch not the trany? Old clutch tossed a spring! I had the flywheel surfaced.
Is it possible I put clutch in backwards?

What type of clutch is it?
It is normal for some noise on some clutches, but some things that should have been changed/checked were the pilot bearing, throwout bearing, and pivot ball. Any one of those being worn could cause some chatter.

Its a brand new HD clutch kit from Orileys New Clutch, pressure plate, T Bearing and resurfaced the flywheel. I did not do it before the spring went bad in the old clutch.
I didn't put it in my son did and I wonder if he put the clutch in backwards?

I don't think it would be shifting well at all if the friction disc was installed backwards, don't think it would release (act like a bad master/slave) but I could be wrong. I would probably break it in and see if it gets any worse, as long as it is shifting normal that is.

About a year ago I did a clutch, pressure plate and resurface flywheel, new pilot and release brg on a Ford HD 4X4 truck after installation it seemed like the clutch was chattering but it didn't get any better. We pulled the clutch out and inspected it. Nothing wrong with it and no indication of slippage. Stuck it back together same thing, after a month took it apart again and took it into the clutch and brake place I got the clutch from. They tested it and nothing wrong. Put it back together, same thing. Then we noticed the clutch master cylinder was down on fluid. Turned out the new release bearing (which is also the slave cylinder) we installed had started to leak very slightly. We replaced that and all was well, No chattering clutch.

Another thing that comes to my mind is u-joints. I r/r'd a clutch in my 68 Ford and pulled trans to check my work after getting a lot of chatter on release. Found a bad u-joint.
