Need help on cummins 230 motor

I am about to buy a new tow truck off e bay and they have a killer deal but everyone I talk to tells me to stay way from the cummins 230 motor. they say they have no power and is very slow on take off.. Anyone know if anyone makes a chip for this motor? or should I pass on the deal..

Ok, I'll bite...

Are you talking about the 2003 California Emissions 235hp trucks?

If so, I can't really help you except to say that my Standard Output (250hp) truck can run with a High Output (305hp) trucks with just an Edge EZ ($300 fuel pressure box) set on level 2 and boost elbow (comes with the EZ, takes minutes to install and increases max boost from ~22psi to ~32psi).

That's all it took to wake mine up. Oh, and don't forget the gauges.

If you want a good daily driver that gets 20mpg+ and can tow 10,000 lbs without breaking much of a sweat, then I'd say go for it. But if you are after a 1/4 mile eating tire smoking d-max killin' diesel beast then keep shopping.

What model engine is it exactly. Is it a diesel engine or natural gas. theres a QSB that comes in a 230hp rating that burns diesel. theres also an ISB B Gas plus BG-230 thats a 230hp rating that burns natural gas. I can see the nat gas engine being a dog.

There are plenty of upgrades you can get for any of the CTD engines to bring them alive. My 250hp 03 was sitting at over 500rwhp when I was done with it. There was plenty more on tap but I "Needed" a new 07 dually.....

Like stated above if you are reffering to he 235hp SO(standard output) version you won't have any problems towing with it. My truck is a SO and although I wish I would of got a HO after installing my Bully Dog Triple Dog I don't have one regret, it woke the engine up and then some.

I hate California and their dang emmisions.

Yup she's good to go. A $ .25 resistor is all I needed to to fix it.
