my tranny sux
my tranny sux
03 2500 2wd with 5spd auto and it sux. Shifts from 3rd to OD almost skipping fourth completely and when pulling kick OD off and goes straight to 3rd and RPM's shoot to 2500 and lose the TORQUE that I bought the diesel for!! Would love to convert to 6 spd manual but what are my options for the auto? Is there a six speed auto for the 03? I love the truck and the engine but.......TRANNY SUX!
I think your 03 is the same as my 06, they only have a 4 speed auto, the 47re and the 48re are the same for the amount of gears,if I push my shift button twice it goes to overdrive off, which is 3rd, I just leave mine in (tow-haul) mode,"towing" not sure if yours has this.
Changes shift points, firmer shifts, and I believe TC lock-up in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.
Also if I am going 60mph down a long grade and lightly on the brakes for at least 5 consecutive seconds it will downshift and lock the TC acting sort of like and engine brake.

There are many who think there is.
It is a 4 speed auto.
The way they want to use lock up makes people think it is a 5 speed.
Here is how it goes.
1st to 2nd, then
2nd to 3rd, then
3rd to lock up, then
depending on ground speed, it will shift to 4th (OD ) and can do it with the converter locked or unlocked.
This is what you feel and think it is skipping a gear.
C is the 48 re
6 is the 47re.
No one can answer your question until we know more about your truck.
Fill out the profile and signature. It is in your control panel.
At a minimum, your auto will need a transgo shift kit. Depending on the condition of it, you may need a rebuild along with it.

Ok that makes sense. So when I am feeling the "bucking" when I thought I was in fourth, I was actually in 3rd with TC locked? OK now why the bucking? Thought tranny was slipping there too.
I forgot to mention the bucking only occurs onder load while towing my fifth wheel and boat. About 12,000 pounds.
