Light Ticking/Pinging noise when turning

Hi folks,
I have a 04 2500 4x4 and had the U-joints replaced in the front axles with high quality parts by a reputable shop who specializes in 4x4. The grinding stopped but I still hear a ticking noise in the front somewhere. It sounds almost like the cap on my wheel is loose and making this pinging sound. Especially turning or if in deep ruts on a dirt road and the tires are flexing. I took it back to the shop and they lifted it up. Checked the u-joints and they were in great shape. They grabbed the wheel and tire and started rocking it. The hub assemble had a small amount of play in it on the driver side. My question is do you think this is whats causing the noise and what risk do I run in driving it for a while? Its not my daily driver so it wont get more than 500mi on it in a month. Also the replacement looks easy but what brand and where should I buy the replacement.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can lend.

They are sure the slop is in the hub/bearing?

If so I wouldn't run it, for fear it would seize or come apart.

id run it most you will do is wear out your brake pads warp your rotor and put some uneven wear on your tire. it will start making lots of noise before it comes apart.

What brand do you recommend to replace it with? I think I will wait a while but will replace as soon as the funds build up again...any favorite sellers of this part?

somebody needs to make a retro-fit kit that uses rebuildable, quality bearings.. Short of that, put a Dyna Trac free spin kit on it.. I think it uses Timken bearings..

I don't really know much about what brands there are, but since no one has made a recommendation...

A buddy of mine lost a front wheel bearing, and I think he bought whatever brand Napa was selling. It seems to be fine and was reasonably priced.
