Lift Pump Woes
why the hell you guys are paying so much for the stock pump, i only paid 378 for my walbro 392 pump with the entire vulcan big line kit and i have to say worth the change over cause there are no longer bango bolts limiting fuel to the injector pump.
Well, I went back there today ad was told by the service manager that when they drain the tank they have to store it in some bulk container and it's then considered contaminated and they have to pay someone to take it away. He said they used to put it in some smaller barrels and reused it but the fire marshall put an end to that.
It looks like it's up to the individual dealer as to whether or not you get back your fuel. I thought that they would at least pump fresh fuel into the tank at DC's expense but guess that's asking too much.
So it cost me about $65 (in fuel) to get my new lift pump replaced.
A word to the wise... if you suspect your lift pump is on it's way out, DON"T fill up! If you can, siphon some fuel out and store it yourself if you can otherwise you might be out more $$$ than you think.
Where does the Walbro pump mount? If this happens to go bad again or if I just decide to upgrade down the road, is it easy to install the Walbro unit yourself?
