Lift Pump Woes
Lift Pump Woes
So i'm pretty sure my lp is out, the truck threw codes, po0628,0480, 0628again. Did you know that the in tank update is $350 from the dealership. That is CRAP, the '02 lp at the smalltown parts store was $172. Why do they do this to us? I could get the walbro kit for $40 more but I can't bum a ride for a week until it gets here by ups. WWHHHHHYYYYYY, WWWHHHHHYYYYY. Dirty Words
I Hope you have better luck in Texas then I have here in South Jersey.
My Lift Pump went out on the 16th the dealer had my truck since the 17th
I just got done talking with them and the pump is on back order. So you may
be bumming a ride anyway. The pump should be covered under warranty.
Did the dealer say you would have to pay $350?

Yes, as above the lift pump is origionaly part of the engine and therefore it should be under warranty. Maybe $100 deductable (determined by if truck is over or under 5 years old. Over 5 years under 100K $100, if under 100K under 5 years then no charge. After it is changed to intank pump not sure how they would classify. (In my mind they have removed it from the engine so maybe no longer an engine warrantied part?).
PS.... Remove the Quad box and all traces prior to your delaer trip for warranty question unless your dealer is mod friendly. If he is not you remaning warranty willl be gone.

its funny you guys mention warranty...they never asked how many miles were on the truck or any thing and I never thought about it, so its out of my pocket now. You know that no where in north texas, and presumably around the country can you find the old style lp. The main Cummins Southern Plains warehouse in Arlington couldn't or wouldn't even help me. Apparently the medium duty trucks have a different lp setup too. Now I have this ridiculous weather meter looking intank module with lp incorporated, I can hardly get one of the fuel tank strap nuts to move. This of course was after it took me an hour and a half to get most of 7/8ths a tank of fuel siphoned out. Never knew this could be such a PIA. How does dodge feel that a 20 min job should be changed into a half a day job rather than just fixing the pump design or moving it closer to the tank? Ohh did I mention that my florr jack decided to give up on me today too. so I guess its a good thing I can't get the nut loose. I need a happy pill thatll make all this go away.

First try your owners manual.Theres been MANY posts and threads on the subject.Lots of posts about dealers doing such.I think more out of not knowing the poicy and prochedure then out of intent to get your C note.Call or go by with your receipt and ask for the service manager and say theres a mistake here.

You want to replace the filter mounted lp with the same? Go here. You'll pay though.

Do a search in your owners manual. As long as you have the Cummins 100K warranty the fuel pump is an engine, emmission (fuel system) part and therefore it's under warranty. If you don't have warranty book call Chrysler Customer care line and ask. They should be able to tell you as much, then go back to your dealer and demand your $100 back.
All this talk about the lift pump thats on the fuel filter I had to go and look where mine was, its still on the fuel filter, it is still good BUT do you guys recommend changing it to the intank one BEFORE I have a problem? Oh and my warranty is long gone I have 260k on her.
Do I get a commision for the information given? I think you are about the 10th person I have told about this racket that many of the dealers try pulling. Can you imagine how much money various delaers make from people that don't have sites like this for inforamation and just pay the deductable and the dealers are not honest enough to return it when Chrysler dosent want it as it is warranty.
Sorry for the rant but I am beginning to really hate dealers and their service writers.
