lift pump

Couple of the past mornings it has been taking a couple cranks for the truck to start. Checked codes and couple but the one that concerns me is 0251. So went to napa and looked a new lift pump, well there is not one mounted on the filter housing on my truck. When you turn the key on it kicks it on back in the tank. Is it possible to just put a new on the filter housing and leave that on back in the tank or where can i find the tank one? And in order for it to start i had to jump it this morning. Any ideas.

You don't want the one on the canister, and you would have to remove/bypass the on in the tank.

I would recommend doing something like a Raptor if you just want a lift pump and you're not wanting to go the performance route.

If you are having to jump it, then you have other problems.

0251 is the CP3, not the lift pump. Your FCA could be going out. If this is the case, you can order a aftermarket kit for about the same price as OEM.

Do i have to drop the tank for a raptor or how does that work. And i also just discovered a fuel leak at the canister? and since i am doing this i want to get a fuel filter bipas and maybe a new fuel water seperator from glacier diesel. Can this all work together.

I think that you do if you have an intank pump. I have not done one of those yet. I would recommend lifting the bed if you can get two other people to help you.

If it was me, I would get an Air Dog (or similar) and just bypass the stock canister. If you get the raptor, you will need to run it to the stock canister.

Where is it leaking from?

What are your goals with the truck? Staying stock, or mods later?

Well I would like to stay somewhat stock. The leak is behind the fuel filter canister from what I can tell. If possible I would like to just put the lift pump up on the canister and get rid of that tank one. how can this be done? But I think it would be a good idea to get that filter bypass from glacier diesel. what do you think?

The canister mounted pumps are not reliable.

If you want to do it, then get the geno's oem replacement pump, however, I do not know how to bypass the in tank pump.

Pull the wheel well to see if it is just the o-ring on the adapter that they put in place of the oem pump. Or, crawl under the truck and look up. I'm pretty sure you can see it from there.

The thing is, if you get the oem pump, it's going to fail again in a few years. If you get a raptor or AD, it has a life time warranty.

You're going to have to figure out how to bypass the intank pump. You really don't even know if it's bad or not. I don't hear of a high failure rate on those in tank pump.

Could it possibly be my batteries? They are pretty corroded. I just cleaned them up. How hard are these raptors to put in if I do go that route. It is going over to that shop in the morning and he going to take a look at it.

It could be the batteries, no doubt. Bad connections can cause a lot of problems.

Like I said before, I have never done one on a truck with a in tank lift pump. The other parts of the install are really easy... you don't need any special tools. I just did one on a buddies 04.5, and it took us about an hour and a half, and we were just screwing around.
