Does anyone know what year they upgraded the lift pump( in tank )?

05. 04.5 and below is mounted up front to the fuel filter housing.

Last I heard, if your engine mounted lift pump goes out on your 2003-2004.5, they replace it with the newer in-tank kit. (Pray that it's under warranty! $$$

 

Any replacements on 03 to 04.5 under warranty or customer pay will be the in tank pump if done at a D.C. store.Engine mounted pump is not available through D.C. any longer.This also goes for 24 valve 98.5 to 2002.The engine mounted pump is still available through a Cummins outlet but not D.C.

 

Diesel Tech told me that the 04' and earlier trucks had metal LP. The 04.5 trucks LP were made out of plastic. That is why the 04.5 trucks go through LP with so few miles. I sure would like to know if this is true about the earlier trucks LP's being made of metal. Can anyone check there truck?

Mine failed at 28,000 miles.

 

Thanks for the info. It's as I thought. I had someone up here tell me it was '06. Didn't want to debate it with him until I got the facts.
