K & N air filter

Is anyone using the K & N cone filter and the replacement intake box/tube?
I used a K & N in my 99 ,10 cyl gasser with good results, but I don't want to screw up this Cummuns.
Thanks

There's a lot of discussion on air filters. Do a search and you will probably get more opinions the you can digest.

I'll second that. Look at AFE pro-gard seven instead.

Scotty Air II [94-02] and Ram Air 3 [03-current]
Two stage Foam, ppm of Silicon highest report 7PPM, available here in the online store.

Uni is recognized for its use in the BAJA as well as many other off road VERY dusty environments. Also easier to maintain then the cotton gauze.

I had one on my 02 and have have one on my 03 for several months now and don't see a problem. I put around ten thousand on my 02 then gave it to my friend without cleaning it and he put another twenty thousand on it with no problems. I personally think they are o/k.

I use the K&N FIPK and I like it in my 04.5. The turbo howls now. Used the K&N stock replacement filter in my 99 and liked it also. I put over 100,000 miles through it and it is still going. Dad is driving that truck now with 150,000+ miles. No problems. Just my 2 cents here, but the folks who do not like or have had problems with K&N products probably clean the filters too often. Put it in and leave it for 30-50,000 miles like it says. A slightly dirty filter will filter better than a pristeen clean one no matter who makes the filter!!!

K&N Air Filter

I've had the replacement air box and filter on my '03 for a couple of years. Instant increase in power. It's the easiest, cheapest, best bang-for-the-buck mod you'll make on your truck. Opinions vary, but no one's had to replace a motor due to the use of a K&N filter. I use K&N filters on every internal-combustion motor I own, except my Onan generator. I'd have one on it if I could find one.

No per Cummins website. They state the use of oiled filters such as K&N are not recommended. The key word here being recommended. This could possibly void the warranty if engine damage was caused by the use of non approved parts. If you choose to use oiled filters, repeat after me. I am my own warranty station. You will have to determine if any advantage gained out weighs the possibe headaches if you should have a warranty claim. The debate rages on. Personally I just purchase the DC filter and don't have to worry about it.

You might try doing some reserach on the web about the filteration of the K&N and others. I know I have read on the TDR a link to this subject, but do not have it available. My understanding was the paper ones filters better on small particales. For myself I choose to run the stock filter, but If I decide to mod I'll go with a BHAF. JMO

Oil analysis will give you the best results on how your brand of filter is working for your engine.JMO

Also make sure any air sucked through the filter is Cummins / D.C approved or they will void your warranty.
