How to make swap from 15w40 to synthetic?
How to make swap from 15w40 to synthetic?
I currently run shell rotella t 15w40. i am switching to amsoil 15w40 synthetic.I was thinking i would add amsoil engine flush to current oil. run it a bit and drain. then leave same oil filter on and add 12 litres of shell rotella and run it a bit. drain it and then add amsoil 15w40 synthetic?
reason id add the shell again is because i have 12 litres of it yet still brand new in pail that ill never use again. so i might as well use it as a second flusing agent?

I would just change it. Get it hot and let it drain for a while. The amsoil will clean all the junk that other oils may have left in the motor. How many miles are on the truck?
One thing you could do is change the filter half way thru the oil service life, this way if you cleaned your motor out and filled the filter faster than normal you will have a fresh filter.. which has to be cheaper than 12L of extra oil.
But if you really don't care about the shell, and can't sell it or use it, then go ahead a flush with it.

Just change the oil and filter! Use the fleetguard filters.
There are no special tricks to switch oils.
The old tails were to sell you special products. The old lines that say synthetics cause leaks are not true either.

If you plan to run more extended drain intervals, past 7500 miles then i would say yes you need it... Is it really $45CAN?? They are 24.80 US... But if you buy a preferred membership for $10 for 6 months, but buy 1 year of oil.. you will save MUCH more than $10... i.e... if you drive 15K a year you would pay 131US pre preferred membership, and 110 after, including the membership.. .all is plus shipping. thats works out to 115.57 CAN, plus shipping...
