silencer ring removal - HELP!
I have searched the forums and tried for an hour trying to remove that metal ring. Unfortunately, it will not move or budge with either a small screw driver or a 90 degree pick. The center of teh opening of the metal ring is at 2 o'clock. The upper ring end (closer to 1 o'clock seems to have the ability to get a pick or screw driver under it to pry it but I can not see what I am doing because it is at 1 o'clock. The lower part of the ring end (closer to 3 o'clock) is tapered so I can not get anything under it. It seems the darn ring is really in there.
Any suggestions?
Also, I am trying to install my BHAF and I can not get it to be installed like other users. Does the filter need to be Mashed into the spot, seems like mine will only fit good if the opening is pointing up at a 20 to 30 degree angle. I even removed the large verticle plastic piece on the passenger fender to give me a little more room but now I am thinking I should put that piece back in. Any help would be appreciated. Sorry for my spelling mistakes.

given up on silencer ring removal
Added lube, moved the ring until the opening was at 5 o'clock.
I bent two picks, broke another one - I hate to "let it win" but it has.
All I am doing is creating contamination that can get into the turbo - scotty is throwing in the towel. For what ever reason, my steel ring as some serious spring force holding it in. I can barely lift the ring with a wide chisel.
I am going to mount my BHAF veritcally and buy a spectre plenum, p/n 9849 along with the intake 90's. This should give the truck some breathing.
THanks for the responses, but this guy is unable to get the ring out.

Don't let that little snap ring win! Mine was at the same spot yours was previously. I couldn't get mine out either and ended up just getting mad. I took a break and came back with the same small screw driver I had been using and the thing poped right out. I didn't even scratch the turbo housing anywhere. That may have been my problem to start with, just being to easy with it. So, take a break and try it again. If you can get the ring up just a little with a small screw driver to get one of your picks under it, the ring will come right out.
Realize that the snap-ring is in a groove also.

just did mine, took less than the time it took to get the air inlet tube off.picked one end of the snap ring up with one screwdriver and put another behind and it popped out.also took out the cross piece in the tube, that took about 5 mins.now im going for a drive!!!!!
I also tried everything and anything possible, but the snap ring on my truck would not budge.
I ended up just getting some angled long needle nose pliers and ripping out the silencing ring, and leaving the snap ring in place..........
