I have been through this with my best friend. First if your dealer seems like they are not wanting to stand behind you find one that will!!! There is a difference & it will make a difference when it comes down to getting Cummins in to go through their end of the deal. But the first thing is be very persistant. Start calling everytop dog at Dodge & Cummins that you can,let them know that you are not going to go away. It will be a long process but Dodge is not unlike any other manufacture out there. They will not give no more than they are not backed into a corner & made to do!!!! Anyway after all is said & done, And (they) meaning both Dodge & Cummins exhuasted their testing they ended up buying back. So the earlier you can document the problem the more the will give you on the buy back. There is no reason a person has to put up with no less then they expect a new vehicle should perform. THEY WILL TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM!!!!!

One of the other guys at work has a similar problem with his 2005. Has to crank 10-15 seconds 2 or 3 times to get it to fire. Dealer told him the filter "sock" in the tank needed to be cleaned and several injectors replaced. He had some injector work done under warranty (now has 75,000 miles on it). They are telling him the cause is dirty fuel. How many filters are there in our fuel supply system? Makes me nervous about the fuel I am buying. Dealer wanted $5500 for the work; a local diesel injector shop wants $4,000.

Just found this thread. In a crazy sorta way, it makes me feel better to know that other guys are experiencing the same problem.......and you're right ehavlicek83; it does suck when you're around the king ranch guys and this happens. Irritates the hell outta me....but I just tell em...Wait til he's cranked boys and then we'll take all comers...

ive seen it happen on more than just the g56 .we had an 04 doing it a while back most of the time if u look at the cp3 it will sweat fuel on the trucks that do this. when we call star they give us the run around usually starts off they let us put new crossover fuel tubes and o rings. in the the head that supply the injectors. ive also noticed most truck with this issue have a light skin of rust on the outside of the tubes. after that dosn't fix it they let us put the injectors in it usually only 1 or 2 then after that dosn't fix it we put the fuel pump kit and the cp3 on that gets it every time. im a parts manager and chrysler wont let me order the cp3 or the injectors i have to talk to a tech and go through 800 different test, when all u need is the cp3 in the first place. i love working on these diesel trucks but when i see one come in for hard to start condition. it makes me angry to know whats wrong with it but know that chrysler is gonna try to do evrything but fix the problem first thing, there just tightwades but there gonna spend it anyway.

glad that i saw this mine is doing the same thing... very upsetting. why should you have to try to start it multiple times when it is new? and it is not like they are cheap, well for the consumer that is. mine has 3100 miles on it and it does it more when it is hot outside. Bad news for me here in austin texas it is always hot.

Mine dose it also and the mil sucks Iam not happy at all with this truck. 11-12 miles to the gal is crap ! The dealer said have a nice day we cant fix it. So now to the next dealer. 9,000 miles and its time to trade it in ?

I have the same hard starting with my o5 the thay told me to waight 10 sec to turn off or it will act fluded at start up but ther is also is a buliten on it thay want my truck for 3 days to look it

Good luck i have had this problem since late december, since truck was new. In fact it did it once on the test drive, but it was cold and brand spanking new so i just figured it was a fluke thing. Mine has gotten considerably worse, took it in the the *********** once and the did the "cure all reflash" that did nothing for the hard starting but did increase my mileage. Now that it is warmer here (montana) mine takes several tries over 60% of the time. Very frustrating as i was a very loyal ford owner, from since i could see over the steering wheel, got frustrated with the 6.ohno powerstroke they have now, and decided to try something different. Now i get this sort of crap for 40k. I guess they all have their problems. Sure would be nice if dodge could pull their head out and get it fixed if it is a common problem. My buddy has an 06 with 48re later build date, that has never not fired on the first time???? They must have changed something.

Mine does this as well. It does it maybe once every dozen cranks. I haven't noticed a pattern on temp (outdoor or vehicle) but I'll start paying attention to that. I'll start waiting a few more seconds before cranking and see if it still does it...
