Can the 04 Tow/Haul be changed to the 06

Can the 04 Tow/Haul be changed to the way the 06 works?? Is it a computer change or is the Trans different. If it can be changed with a computer I would like to know where I can get the fix..

I read on another thread that the 06 works better. The overdeive works in the tow/haul mode and the shift points are different. To take it out of Overdrive in the T/H you push the button twice. The other difference is that the TC locks up in the lower gears. I am trying top find out if this can be done through a flash on the 04.5

Hopefully someone knows and will pass it along??

The 06 has two options.

You push the button once for Tow/Haul mode - locks the TC in 3rd and 4th (overdrive), and will lock in 2nd under "extreme" conditions. It feels like it stays locked as it shifts, but it does disengage for a second as it shifts.

You press the button twice for the OD off option. It is self explanatory.

This is just an opinion, but the TC is more efficient. My 04.5 would rev higher and didn't feel as strong when the TC was unlocked.

The Tow/Haul mode change was a big reason why the exhaust brake is now an option on the auto equipped '06's.

I am not sure that it is just a programming change, or if there were any mechanical changes to the tranny.

It will interesting to see if someone knows what the changes are and if they can be applied to the 04.5.
Thanks for your post

The 04.5 will lock up in 2nd gear if the lever is pulled to 2nd.

The other thing that the 06 allows you to do is put a exhaust brake on, I think it is an option on the 06.

Okay so I may be Nieve about the Tow/Haul thing but my 05 shifts into Overdrive with Tow/Haul in the ON position (Light on dash says Tow/Haul). I pulled my Toy Hauler about 500 miles over the Memorial Day weekend and the Dodge went into overdrive with the Tow/Haul on everytime. I did not think it would do that but mine does.

Yes the 05 does do that but the 06 does it better (Exhaust Brake can be added due to the way the TC locks up) The 04.5 can't do either, trying to find out if it is a computer change or if the inside of the Trans is different.

NEWS FLASH, talked to suncoast transmissions, They said there is no difference in the 04 to 06 transmission. He said the 06 TC stays locked up down to 27 mph both on the up and down shifting. His suggestion (if I can find one) is to have a dealer re-flash the computer to the 06 settings and I should be all set. I wonder if a dealer will be willing to do this. Guess I will start calling dealers. Will post results when and if I can find a willing dealer.

Talked to 3 dealers and got the same answer from all of them. Can't be done because you would have to change the ECM and the 06 does not have the same pins as the 04. There is no flash for this. They suggested an after market fix, but that would void the warranty. I am sure if Dodge wanted the transmission to work like the 06 they would come up with a flash, but they think that would slow down sales on the new ones. I am not sure I like the way they think!!
