Hard start problem

So this happens quite often with my truck not every time but its getting on my nerves so im wondering if its happened to anyone else i have a 06 3500 with 6 speed but sometimes my truck has a hard time starting.. Itll crank over and over.. I only hold it for about 5 seconds because i dont want to burn anything up. Sometimes i have to sickle the key 2 or 3 times before itll start like normal.. Anyone else have this problem..

Mine does it every now and again. Seems to do it when it's warmer outside. I don't think it's ever done it on a cold day. I've read that it has to do with one of the fuel pumps or something. I really can't remember the specifics. Do a thread shearch on the subject. I'm pretty sure there's plenty of info. From what I understand, it's a fairly common thing. I've just kind of accepted the fact that my truck does it. If it seems like it's gonna do it, I just let go of the key, wait a second, then do it again. Always starts right up on the second try.

Same problem here. It's now occurring about every third time I start, or try to start the truck. It's getting on my nerves [verymad].

If I cycle the key off, turn it back on and wait a few seconds it will usually start that second time. I've only got 1700 miles on the truck and haven't taken it back to the dealer yet.

Wow, I guess others are having this same thing happen. I thought it was just me 'till I saw this thread. My '06 does the same thing and it drives me nuts. Maybe one day there will be a fix.

I had the TSB done on my truck (found it in a issue of TDR), and I still get it. It usually happens right after I fill-up, and when the truck is warm. From everything I've read, it's only on the trucks with the G56. I know of only one other guy with the G56 in his 05, and it does the same thing. I hate haveing such a new truck and people looking at me because I have to crank it a 2nd and 3rd time!

I havent had the TSB done and i rarely if ever get it. I know that the wait to start light doesnt come on every time you turn the key like the older trucks but i get in, turn the key and buckle my seat belt and get situated, give it a few seconds, and then start it and it starts almost everytime in around 1 sec. I dont know if my waiting has anything to do with it but i almost never get a hard start.

Do you have the TSB number that you could share?

Cowboy45 04-05-2006 08:40 PM

Could you guys tell me what the TSB is? I'm trying to catch up on all the lingo and get back into the swing of things. I've only had my truck a month so I'm still learning. Thanks.

Mine does it too.
Was warm after work, didn't have to wait for the light to go off. I crank it, it tries to fire right away but not quite. I turn it over again, gotta crank it for quite a while or it fires on the 3rd try.
I was showing off my new truck to a guy with a 02, he asked if this was normal? I said after 5 days I don't know yet...

Ripper01 04-05-2006 11:18 PM

Yeah they are jus jealous that they dont have a nice truck like you..

Mixer Man 04-06-2006 06:48 AM

Are you guys letting the pump build pressure before cranking it ? That CP3 has to build quite a bit of steam before it will fire . I always turn the key to "on " for 5 seconds or so before I crank it over ............. but I do agree these beasts seem to start better cold than warm [eyecrazy] ! The fuel filter on my truck was black at 6000 miles that seemed to help .
