hard start

About 4 weeks ago my truck started taking a few seconds to start, after 3 days of this it would not start, i thought maybey I got some bad fuel so i changed the fuel filter and it started right up. the old filter was completly black. after about a week it did it again so i changed the fuel filter agian and it starts right up the filter was dirty but not that bad, well today it is starting hard again. Do i have some dirty fuel in my tank or is my transfer pump going bad.
By the way I drive over 75 miles aday and my truck is an 03 HO 6 speed

Could be the transfer pump going out. Also hard starts can be caused by leaking injector(s).
How many miles on the truck?

I've noticed that even in warm temperatures, I need to turn the key to on for a few seconds before starting. This allows the lift pump to run and get fuel before starting. It's almost as if the fuel drains away when idle for a few days. Not a big problem. This might work for you as well.

The dealership. Will use the DRB scan tool for testing the injectors.

I think the transfer pump is the culprit, should I replace it with the in the tank factory replacement or an after market. I have a freind at the Dealership that will install the factory in the tank pump for $300 out the door.

aftermarket.
comparable price. one mounted on the framerail can be replaced in 20 minutes on the side of the road if the need arises.
an intank pump that has failed is miserable to fix. it always happens with a full tank of fuel, raining cats and dogs, nowhere near your garage.

You may get some fuel in the engine oil. Check your oil level and to see if it smells like diesel.
