After changing front brake pads, hydroboost brake pedal went to floor and stayed and

Changed out the front brake pads today, and shocks. I fired up engine to test drive and when I applied the brakes (hydroboost) at the road's edge, the pedal went to the floor and stayed there. All the brakes were locked up. I cracked the two brake lines on bottom of proportioning valve and a tiny amout of fluid came out. That apparently relieved enough pressure to allow me to back truck off road's edge into the back yard. Now truck in yard, but no brakes, and pedal still on floor. (Fortunately I was backing up hill) Any one have any ideas what's going on? All I did was compress calipers to get new shoes on.

Thanks Oliver, the matter is resolved. I assume the brake pedal stayed on floor because it traveled further than normal because of the empty calipers. I assume it got "stuck" in that extended position for a reason I can't explain. I couldn't lift the brake pedal the previous evening with my toes, but did lift it the following morning when I got under dash and used my hands. It came up slowly. Then I bled brakes and all seems fine now.

This sounds like air or pressure issue in the hydroboost or master cylinder.

When you pushed the caliper pistons back, fluid went back into the system. If the master cylinder is old, the seals can stick and the pedal can drop.

Also check if the brake lines are tight at the calipers and proportioning valve. A small leak or loose fitting can cause no pedal.

Try this:
  • Check brake fluid level
  • Bleed all four wheels again
  • Start with the rear, then front
  • Also check the hydroboost lines for leaks
If pedal still stays on floor, the master cylinder may need to be replaced.

NIOMARVIN83, if you look, he already found the problem, I'm starting to think after looking at your thread answers that you are a bot. You have not started a single post in the time you have been on the forum but seem to always chime in with AI answers to posts already here, please reply back either here or a private message to me to prove you are not a bot.
