Gould vacuum pump for jake brake

Anyone have thoughts on the Gould vacuum pump for the Jacobs exhaust brake? The second Dodge part pump has just gone south. The Gould is advertised for $359, Dodge wants $1,000.

Be sure to check all of your connections any kind of leak can cause pump failure.. I did not like the factory setup on hoses and adapters so I changed out the fitting at the solenoid valve and ran one piece of 3/8 hd hose all the way to the pump..

x2 on check prices at cummins they are about 1/2 of Dodge pricing..

check out this option:

Just a note..

You can get a complete system from Cummins for about 1K...

here's the #'s for the pump

Mopar: 5102084AA / Cummins: 3965925

I checked the part number with Cummins which Colo River Ram suggested, $215 for the vacuum pump from them. Much better than the $1,000 for the part from Dodge.

The Gould looks interesting. Their claim is that the design has less RPM and thus supposed to last longer. Know nothing about Gould products. I think changing out the hose is a good idea also.

Good help here. Thanks so much.

I am the guy that did the electric pump install mentioned in CRR's post. As a follow up I would like to let you know the sytem is still in place and working fine but I did have problems with the vacuum switch that came with the kit. I replaced it with a much more robust vacuum switch and it has worked just fine ever since. Ihave 60,000 km on the new setup.

Thanks for the update on your system smokeman. What is the amp draw of the pump and would it justify a relay?

You can mount a 10 HP hydraulic pump in the same location that the Jake OEM vacuum pumps is bolted..Your set-up would allow more options to be added...

I don't know the amp draw but I was and still am using a relay. The vacuum switch creates the ground for the relay.
