Ticking in Jake Brake Vacuum pump

Started up the truck this morning and a ticking was coming from my jake vacuum pump. Thought at first it was a lifter but after doing some visual and sound analizing it must be a ruptued diaphram in the vacuum pump. The rod does not go in to the actuator but maybe a 1/4 inch. Didn't want to drive it home from where I was afraid I might have the pump sieze up and the belt might break and who knows what else might happen.
Anyone have any symtoms like this on their vacuum pump? If it is the pump how tuff is it to change, looks to be pretty simple any tricks I need to know?
As far as I can tell the pump has to keep vaccum up to work the actator that energizes the exhaust brake system when the button is pulled.
Thanks

Your pump is failing. It won't seize up but your exhaust brake will stop working. Go to your local Cummins dealer and get another pump. Much less expensive than the Dodge dealer! Release the tension on the serpentine belt and undo the three bolts holding the pump. Don't forget to unplug the vacuum hose first. Once you get the hang of it, the job can be done in less than a half hour. Get to know your Cummins dealer as this will not be the last time you change the pump. I have 218,000km on my 07 and on my fourth pump.

Already changed got a pump from Cummins carrying two extra belts one long for the jake one for the stock set up. Also have ordered a new diaphram for the old one as a back up. All this stuff are put into my tool box. I released the pressure by locking it back with a visegrip that stopped the ratchet from moving back. Easy job no problems. Thanks for the reply....

I also carry the OEM belt under the rear seat. What was the Cummins Part numbers for the parts?

I was considering buying a 12V Vacuum pump and mount it rear right side in the engine space. Same one that came on the 2003 Dodge and Ford Products. I heard it was about 150 bucks. Good thing about it being DC power, you can turn it on when you want to use the brake and turn it off when not towing.

The Cummins part number for the vacuum pump is 3965925. What part numbers were you refering to that you wanted?

Make sure all vac connections are tight. I used a clamp at the pump and tie-wraps at all other connections from pump to tube across fire wall to controller to activator. I read in a search that leaks shorten the pump life.
