Goerend no more built transmissions??
I just called Goerend to order a complete transmission and apparently they are not building full transmissions any more, just parts. It seems I waited too long...
Anyway, with them out of the equation who is next in line for building the best turn key 48 transmissions?

Maybe so but im not going to risk $4000 to find out. Besides i wouldnt be getting Goerend support or warranty. Just too risky. I work way to hard for my money. Im not going to hand it over to some unknown shop. Ill be going with another builder. Probably Suncoast. Theyd be my 2nd choice. ATS is hit or miss so i wouldnt risk giving them my money either.

I don't know where you are at in the country, but if in the South, Jeff Garmon's really good. In the west, Rip Rook can help with Ultimate Tranny.
I don't know where Suncoast is nowdays. The founder of that company that made it what it was passed away some time ago and almost immediately quality and service suffered.
I couldn't tell you that they have recovered or not.

I did not know that about Suncoast. Thanks for the info. I guess ill have to either make a trip down south to Garmons or do a manual conversion. I cant believe im stuck with an auto and cant get a Goerends. No wonder Cummins with automaticsare so cheap these days.

give dave a call I am sure if you have his parts in your transmission you will have his support, he has gone way out of his way to help me with my transmission build I did last summer.

I just had the same issue/ wanted a Goerand trans and they only build parts now. times change. they referred me to Dyno Tech transmission in Jordan 875 corporate drive Jordan 55352/ the twin cities of Minnesota. it is the exact same trans that dave built, its built with his parts and same warranty.
I am having a 47re done now (heavy duty with billet input) all Goerand parts
new billet flex plate and new trans cooler which required by dyno tech.
total out of pocket is 5400$
if you call ask for Ken, he does the diesel trans.
if you need more info let me know

If you have a 48RE then you want Goerend parts in your transmission! If you listen to other Goerend customers you'll hear the same glowing reviews over and over. As long as you use a shop that Dave recommends you will get support and warranty coverage from Goerend.
Case in point:
One year ago I had my transmission built by a local reputable diesel shop that Dave steered me to. They used Goerend's complete kit (Master Overhaul Kit, 3-disc converter, Billet input/output, billet 1-2 lever, etc, etc) but the shop owner suggested I use the constant pressure valve body, and I accepted his recommendation.
However, once the transmission was done I wasn't 100% happy with how it shifted at low throttle, so I called Goered and was quickly transferred to Dave. He spent 30 minutes on the phone, listening to my needs and explaining VB theory... and then, without hesitation, he offered to swap out the VB with a variable pressure one at no cost to me.
A few days later the new VB arrived at the local shop and was installed in my transmission while I waited.
My "Goerend-but-rebuilt-by-another-shop" transmission now shifts flawlessly; Firm but not at all harsh and with no hunting between gears. Exactly the way a diesel truck should shift!

I also waited too long. I was referred to Banghart Diesel in Wahoo, Nebraska. My truck is there right now getting the tranny built. I'll post my opinion when I get it back. Gonna test it out right away. Taking the 5ver up to South Dakota on a fishing trip.
