gear noise in nv 5600

I know I am not the only one with gear noise in the tranny when rpm is below 1200. Has anybody tried a different lube other than the mopar lube, that made any differnce in sound.

1200 rpm is kinda high for this....but could it be clutch chatter? I always get that around 500-800 rpms.

I might have been a little high on 1200 but most of the noise is right at idle. As soon as I get on the go pedal it goes away.

Mine does the same thing with the G56. Mine is right as it returns to idle speed but is still in gear. Almost sounds like the shifter is rattling.

Gear Rattle

Is the rattle at low rpm with the truck in a gear other than 1st or 2nd and the clutch fully engaged? I know that low speed, low rpm, and higher gears makes the tranny make sound as if they are chattering and rattling at the same time. If you can downshift one gear does the noise go away?

The rattle is at low rpm (idle) 1st or 2nd and clutch fully engaged. If I am puttin around first or second it will rattle as soon as I give it a little go pedal it will go away.

Rattlin about

This is normal as mine does the same thing. I bet it rattles more in 2nd than 1st when you are puttin about. If you have 4 wheel drive put the T-case in 4 low and I'll bet the rattle is a lot less if it does not disappear completely as the effective load on the transmission is reduced by the T-case ratio, about 2 I think. What is happening is the transmission gears are being loaded and unloaded (shuttering, low frequency vibrations) as there are variations in engine rpm , with a relatively high load on the tranny and the transmission case is acting as an echo chamber amplifying the shuttering. As you speed up the frequency increases and noise dimishes as the loading on the tranny gears as more consistant. You will never hear this on an automatic as the transmission fluid acts a noise dampener passing through the valve body, over the bands, and vibration dampener through the torque converter.

Mine rattles also. Really bad if you lug it.
BTW don't do the TSB. The springs get crudded up and stop rattling after a few miles.

Mine does the same thing but not at idle like the TSB problem. I found out it almost completely goes away if I stop dwelling on it. I was paranoid when I first bought the 03. Craig
