Hi all,

My new truck’s engine was built in the time period (built Oct ’05) covered by the “white smoke” and “hard start” TSB’s (18-003-06 and 18-041-05). How can I tell if the updates have been done or need to be done? The bulletin describes an “Authorized Modification Label” that is to be filled out and “Attached near the VECI label”….what is a VECI label and where is it on the truck?

The bulletin also states under “diagnosis”, to “operate the power door locks. If the rear door lock(s) is inoperative, perform the Repair Procedure”. I’ll be going back to the dealer in a few weeks for the initial oil change (not going to wait for 10K miles to change what I consider “break-in” oil). Guess I’ll just say the truck is hard to start (sometimes it is) and has white smoke (It hasn't yet)????

mine has them on the radiator support and on the engine's computer which is on the block by the power steering pump.

 

The dealer can pull up everything that has been done to your vehicle from the initial build to the TSBs performed, needed etc. based on your VIN. Give the service department a call.

I'll have the dealer check the VIN, and I have printed out the two TSB's and will take them with me.
