nv 5600 1st gear startability???

If you are stopped in traffic on a steep hill, will 1st gear in this transmission
start to move the truck forward, without having to quickly stab at the fuel pedal while releasing the brake pedal...assuming a good size load on the truck...

Thanks

I've had over 12k behind my truck and it's never been a problem to start on a hill with just letting out the clutch (no go pedal)!!! Granted, you don't just want to let her hang there and idle with that load, but like I said, starting out, no problem!!

I actually dumped the clutch in 1st with the camper and loaded horse trailer, about 19,000 #'s. Foot was wet and coated with diesel from someone else's spillage at the pump and it slipped clear off the peddle. Happened on decent hill. Horses were not happy, neither was the truck but did not kill it.
I'm almost convinced that it's next to impossible to kill it in 1st.

I do it with a 17K fiver behind me. This thing is almost impossible to kill. You almost have to try to do it. Just ease the clutch out till you feel it grab and start to take hold, then ease your foot off the brake and let it go. Plenty of time to get to the go pedal.

These trucks have a good off idle governor, pretty much impossible to stall. I never touch the skinny pedal starting out regardless of load. My GF can hop in at the boat launch and just pull away in second with zero effort. Just be smooth with the clutch. It's one of my favorite things about the jalopy.

It'll give it enough fuel to keep from stalling it, basically no matter what. I tried it once just to do it, and got it up to 6th gear without touching the skinny pedal.
