G56 Manual Transmission Refill

This is concerning the refill of fluid on my G56 manual trans. Instead of refilling the fluid on right side of trans., can the fluid be refilled through gear shifter cover inside truck?

Yesterday, I went to change the fluid and forgot to put the washer on the drain plug. I didn't have a stubby hex bit so had to drop the exhaust to get my hex bit in refill plug. A real PITA!!!! I want to get that washer back on the drain plug asap. Please reply if you know for sure this can be refilled through gear shifter to avoid the side refill plug. Thanks

I've added a qt through there at every change, so it can be done. How long will it take to go down through the entire system? Will it back up and overflow if it takes a while? Don't know.

I would guess that if you watched the process carefully, not overfilling it and, after all the required fluid is in, wait a while so the liquid can settle down before driving, it should work.

You would think the fluid would go down to the bottom of the trans just like oil does in an engine pretty quick. As I stated before, I just want to put that gasket back on the drain plug. I have been watching for leakage, but none so far. Thanks for your reply.
