G56 Drain Plug Tool Size?

Hey, what size is the hex-head tool needed to remove the drain plug on the G56? It looks to me like 1/2" or maybe 12/13mm. Problem is, I've been to every auto parts store in town (Kragen, Autozone, Napa, Sears, Pep Boys) and nobody has one that big.

I picked up seven quarts of Redline C+ATF today but now I can't use it.

Thanks!

Rob

Rob,it's a 14mm hex tool and it's available from Geno's. Get the oil filter tool, filters, etc. while you're at it. Incidentally,I switched out my fluid for Amsoil ATF this morning with great results. The plugs, however, were tightened down by somebody mad at their wife or something. I had to clamp on Visegrips to create a "cheater bar" for leverage. I was able to put in approx. 6.4 qts. in the sucker.

Yeah, its 14mm. I found them at my local Autozone in a set of three,17,14,and12mm. 1/2"drive.
Look for the set,as its not usually near the other hex bits on the shelf.

I too just changed to Amsoil ATF in my G-56.
Shifts 100% better now

A regular 14mm allen key will work as well. Might need a wrench on the end of it for some leverage. That's what I had to do.
I installed Redline C+ATF in mine not long ago.

Thanks! I found a pack at Sears that had a 14mm but they wanted $40, so I didn't get it. I'll check Autozone tomorrow. Otherwise I'll just return the fluid and do it later, because I'm leaving on my trip on Thursday.

I got just the 14mm allen bit from the SnapOn guy.

I just use that and a 14mm socket. Was like $7

I don't know what my nv5600 is but I made a tool from an allthread couple. I had one that was a little too big and ground down one end. I think 14mm is a little under 9/16" and that is a common size coupler. Craig

Okay, I got the tool I needed... last question (I hope): Is the fill plug the other 14mm one on the side, or is it the higher one up that is a Torx? If it's a Torx, what size is it? I think I have one that big but I'm not sure...

No point in draining it til I can be sure I can refill it.

The fill plug is the one on the pass. side.
Looks the same as the drain plug...big gold sucker.
Also 14mm.
Always take that one(fill plug) out first
