Fuel Mileage
Fuel Mileage
I have read about the poor milage on the 600 engine and I have also read about the knock or the pinging sound that some people are experiencing. I read a post where they said that DC had installed new injectors and that mileage went up and the noise was reduced. Any new info? Has there been and build dates that appear to be OK? Any news on the 05's? Does anyone know if DC has plans for a 5 speed automatic for the CTD?
Build Dates
From what I have read, GENERALLY the 600s with the bad milage seem to have pretty early build dates like in January or so. My motor was built February 15th and I'm in the 20 mpg on the highway club.
Lately, it seems that there are a lot more stories about good mpg with the 600. It could be breaking in, less winter blend fuel, later build dates, something else, a combination of these things, the arangement of the planets, global warming, the integral on the closed loop of the gausian surface modeling the magnetic field...
You should get the idea that I really have no idea what is going on!

I just wanted to add, my truck came in about 10 days ago. I just filled it up again and my first tank averaged 12.7 50/50 city highway. I think it is my 4.10 gears that are killing me. I noticed I get better mileage cruising at 45-50 on the roads instead of 70 on the highway.
I just picked up my 600 on Saturday, Averaging 17mpg with 4x4, 3:73. No drivetrain vibration, No injector noise. I haven't looked at my build date yet, but WOW what a big difference from my stock 97 12 valve. All I want to do is DRIVE! It's a great truck!
My truck was built 01/05. I picked it up at the dealer 03/17
The mileage was around 14 (50/50). NEW TRUCK+WINTER FUEL=poor fuel mileage.With 3800 miles, mileage is 18.3 @65/70
17.1 @ 75+
BEST TRUCK I HAVE EVER OWNED....No problems

Odie2219,
What probably happened with your truck was that the fuel mileage problem was corrected before you took delivery. If your truck is a DRW, then you have the same setup I do and I cannot imagine ever getting 18 in my truck. (13mpg now)
What ticks me off is that Dodge hasn't contacted us that have a "problem" truck to have it fixed properly. We who have a problem will probably have to go through 4 trips to the dealer and waste our time before they do something about it.

Here is the response from DC when asked about the fuel mileage and if they had any plans for a 5 speed auto for the CTD.
