4" Exhuast
Is there any point to look into buying a custom exhuast when the stock parts are 4 inches on my truck as best as I can tell.
If there is a point, what are the pros and cons?
Thanks, Jamie

Go to www.genosgarage.com and order a muffler replacement pipe..about $ 90 .
Mine sounds great....only really loud when ya get on her.....kinda like driving with the old glass packs when the cops were around.

So replacing the muffler with a pipe improves the way it sounds... what about performance... My goal is to maintain or improve fuel economy... I'm assuming I shouldn't need to replace my entire exhuast system because it's already 4 inch pipe.
Thanks for sharing.

Had mine installed at Holly Hill Muffler in Daytona Fl. on Rt.1 Ridgwood Ave.........they will order the pipe for you and install it...give them a call or stop by and see them...pipe comes like in 1-2 days from order.....30 minute install........was in Fla. all winter just got back to NY........I think it helps powerwise and fuel.......a little loud but sounds sweet.........

So the point of having a muffler in the first place is to decrease the sound level on a diesel. How much did it cost u if you don't mind me asking. Does it make your truck sound like a semi or is the sound the same as before just louder.

Pipe about $96 Install about $50
And I like the sound..........you can always put the muffler back on! and sell the pipe if you don't like it.
Go to www.genosgarage.com and look up the pipe for yourself.

Jmac, Exhaust is 4" from tailpipe to muffler. From muffler up to turbo is 3.5". If you want a complete 4" system you will need to install a banks down pipe strait off of the turbo 4" outlet.

Holy Cow, $96 for a bent piece of pipe?? Rip Rook can do quite a bit better than that, or go with the PSD intermediate pipe from Diesel Power Products and their 4" straight muffler or Aeroturbine to effectively get the correct offset and eliminate the stock muffler.

The pipe from Geno's requires no cuting of stock system......simply relaces muffler......if you don't like it just put the muffler back on.
Once you start hacking at the stock pipe with a saw you can't back up to easy.
I admit the straight pipe is a little raw (good in open country, not in citys) and would probably go with a straight type muffler.
Is there a flowthrough muffler that bolts on to a stock system? Where are they sold?

FWIW, when I replaced my full system at about 20k miles, there would have been no way to "remove" my old muffler without either a torch or saw. It did have one winter's worth of driving to help cement/rust itself on good.
I would think that you would have to have a nice clean low mileage exhaust system to be able to slip the old muff off and replace it with something else.
Or are your "pain thresholds" in removing/replacing mufflers much more tolerant than mine?
