fuel filter replacement
fuel filter replacement
If possible can someone list the steps to replace my fuel filter on an 2005 Cummins. I am sure it is easy, but I have never done it before. I normally get the dealer to do it with an oil change, but it is due now and I have a few thousand kms before the oil change is due.
Thanks

drain fuel filter bowl of fuel (yellow lever) unscrew cap- i believe it is a 1 1/8 socket. remove fuel filter and rubber o'ring on cap. replace rubber o'ring with new one and reinstall with new fuel filter. you may want to wipe your fingers down in the fuel bowl to see if you have any gunk in there, to be on the safe side.
Be sure to prime it before you start it up. It's easy. Takes about 10 minutes and you'll kick yourself for ever paying to get it done. Here's a writeup with pics: http://www.dodgeforum.com/m_485543/tm.htm
Just make sure you use either the Baldwin PF 7977, Fleetguard Stratapore filter or the Mopar filter as they are 7 micron or smaller. BTW, many parts places are still selling the older 10 micron fuel filter. FYI, Cummins requested that all CR engines use a 7 micron or smaller fuel filter starting back in June of 2006.
You can get the 5 micron Baldwin here for $13.69 or less if you buy 3 or more: http://www.adiesel.com/store/PF7977.html

when you go to the new filter, it loses the "cap" thingy thats clipped into the lid. Be sure to pop that thing out as it is not used with the new style filter. I didn't know this and could not get the cap back on!
