fuel filter replacement

I want to replace the fuel filter on my 92 2 wheel drive. Do I have anything special like on the oil change. I ws wondering if I had to fill the filter before I put it on.

Welcome noobie. You don't have to fill the filter with fuel if you like pumping the primer lever on the lift pump for 15 minutes trying to get the truck started. Filling the filter is definitely easier on your thumb. Don't forget to oil all 3 o-rings, and be careful unscrewing the WIF sensor, it's plastic. It's actually an easy job, it looks worse than it is. Don't sweat it if you spill a little, the truck will still start.

Yeah prefill it so you won't lose the prime on the fuel lines. If you use fuel additives, it makes it easy just to fill it from the bottle. Unplug the filter water sensor. Take the old one off. Make sure the O-ring comes off. Screw the sensor to the new filter, then fill it. Put the new O-ring in place, screw it on and plug the sensor in.

Re:fuel filter replacement

Thanks guys Now I just need to find out if it is a canister that I take off and replace the filter inside or if it is just like an oil filter. The parts man said there were possibly two types on my 92.

Re:fuel filter replacement

Should look like a small oil filter with a wire connected to the bottom, above your starter.

Re:fuel filter replacement

well that was easy. I got the right filter and it went in fairly easy. Someone had cross threaded the drain before so it took a little fussing but it went in straight. The old filter was very dirty when I drained it into a cup and the threads were all rusty.

Thanks again ;D

Re:fuel filter replacement

When you prime for the fuel filter there is a bleeder screw in the fuel lines just above the filter housing in the banjo fitting. You open that bleeder and pump the lift pump till fuel comes out. Then you don't have to fill the filter first.

I have attached photo of the bleeder..
