Fuel Filter Preference????

Just been shopping around to see what fuel filters I can get local. It seems that the Wix or Purolator are easy to get around here. I've been ordering mine online but freight rates keeps going up which is almost doubling the cost of the fuel filters online......Just wondering if anybody else is buying their fuel filter at a local auto parts store & if so what brand are you using?
In most trucks you can run a 7 or 10 micron fuel filter. Any preference between the two? I've never seen a break down on trash in fuel but a grain of sand can be over 800 microns & one human hair is 70 microns. Maybe I'm thinking wrong about this all wrong but it seems a 10 micron fuel filter would work just find. Going to a 7 micron filter would do a little better job but would also make your fuel pump work harder....

Get either a Baldwin or Fleetguard filter at a rating of 7 Micron or better. These high pressure system actually require more, 2 Micron. So no, a 10 Mircon won't cut it for the long haul.

Baldwin makes a 5 micron version and AFE actually just came out with a 3 micron version that fits in the stock canister.

I have used Fleetguard since new, except one time when I needed a filter and NAPA was the only parts store around. I used a NAPA Gold that time. Made by Wix if I remember right. Fortunately, I have always lived near a Cummins shop. Also, the reason for the best micron filtration is at such high injection pressure, cracking injectors and nozzle erosion is a potential problem. 3rd gen injectors are expensive, so you'll want the best filtration you can get.

I'm running the 5 micron Baldwin but will look into the AFE filter.

I talked to a Dodge Diesel mechanic last night at a sled pull event. He said that Bosch says that our fuel needs to be filtered down to 3 microns.

Chrysler doesn't do it.

I run a Fleetguard 7 micron filter in the stock filter housing and then follow it up with a 2 micron spin on filter. (kit from GDP)

I believe that is the key to longevity to the Common Rail injectors. I have been running Smarty on 9 and TS-MP8 on 100 percent for almost a year and 20K miles with no issues.....still on my original stock injectors. (98K total)

Filter that FUEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also run the Baldwin in my stock canister and the GDP 2 micron set up as well. I buy from Genos Garage for everything except fuel filters. I buy them by the case online... Not a bad price each if you buy bulk
