Question First Time Adjusting the Valves on 2006 - Advice?

I've adjusted the valves on plenty of Toyota 22R's, early VW Beatles, small and big block Chevy's. Is adjusting the valves any different on my CTD? Any tips or suggestions before I give it a try? should I do it before or after my next oil change? I've read that they should be adjusted to - Intake at .010 and Exhaust at .026.

Thanks,
Richard

Adjustment specs are on the valve cover. Depending on which year you have the exhaust lash may be different. Just do a search on here for the procedure.

the valve cover will say 0.010 and 0.026, cummins wants them 0.010 and 0.020, dodge wanted the 0.026 for a margin of error with emissions, set them at 0.020. get the feeler gage with the 45* bend. turn the engine to where the timing mark is straight up and place a chalk mark on the bottom so when you turn the engine over one full revolution you do not have to keep getting up to see where you are. a engine barring tool from genosgarage.com for $34.95 is nice but not a necessity, there is 6 bolts on top and two tubes on the driver side to pull out. no need to replace the gasket.
