Factory Synchromesh vs. Pennzoil

From what everyone has said the Pennzoil counterpart is not synthetic like Amsoil or Redline. I am curious if the factory fill stuff is even synthetic? Also has anyone or Dodge come to a definitive answer on the overfill, seems some say it'll make it run hotter and not sling oil properly and then others swear by it?

TIA, Eric

I swapped mine out with the factory spec oil. I think it was Valvoline. Filled it to the factory spec and have had zero problems. I did that at about 25K, now have about 45K on it.

I put Pennzoil synchromesh in mine about 5000 miles ago. Haven't had any problems yet. Seems to work fine. I did overfill it one quart but I can't ansower your question about it making the trans run hotter.

I would think as long as its Synchromesh, you should be good to go...

Sorry, it was the Pennzoil Synchromesh. I put it in 2 or 3 years ago and it shifts nice and smooth. No problems.

The OEM lube was OK. Amsoil didn't last very long before it got to shifting stiff. I like RP synchromax the best for shifting and the least metal buildup on the magnet. I was using 5 qts til I read about a rebuilder who recommends 6 qts. I use 6 qts now and it runs the same temp as before. Craig

I read somewhere that Penzoil bottles the stuff for Mopar, but I don't know if it is true?

Anyway, I had good luck with Redline MTL in my 03.

I have changed mine at 30, 60 and 90K miles and used Penzoil Syncromesh. Still going strong at 102K and shifting is still the same as when it was new.

My NV5600 was grinding in 3rd gear (weak synchro). I changed the trans oil, overfilled to 11.5 pints (I think that's about a quart over) with Pennzoil Synchro at about 215k miles and drove it 5000 miles on a cross-country trip towing a trailer with a car on it, about 5000#. Now it no longer grinds going into 3rd, even when cold. No idea what the trans had in it before, or when it was last changed, but it didn't look or smell bad when I drained it. The Pennzoil sure quieted and smoothed up the trans.

Pennzoil Sychromesh is the OEM oil used by NuVenture for the NV5600. It was originally Texaco and Pennzoil bought it from Texaco. The same company owns Pennzoil and Quaker State and that be Shell. Using synthetics with the wrong GL rating damages the sychro rings.
