Pennzoil in diffs?

Has anyone used the GL-5 Pennzoil gear oil in their differentials? It is available locally at Wal-Mart. They also have a synthetic version but I am not sure if Wal-Mart sells it.

Personally, I have redline in mine. The book specifies full synthetic GL-5 75W-90, so I don't think I wouldn't run a non-synthetic.

My first oil change on the diffs was with the Penzoil 75w-90 synthetic. It was not what I wanted but was all I could find at the time. It does meet the requirements as it is a GL-5 synthetic.

I wanted to find something locally. It's been raining here what seems like every day this month and we can't get in the hay fields. I changed the tranny oil yesterday and I thought the diffs would be a good project for today. A drive to the parts store would let me know if the 6-speed is shifting smoother.

N5, go to any pep boys or autozone and pick up some Mobil 1 gear lube. I can't imagine finding syn lube locally is that difficult. Don't bother putting in dino lube.

Did mine 2 weeks ago and used Royal Purple 75-140. I got it at NAPA for 8.32 a quart. It's alittle pricey but well worth it in my opnion.

Actually, I have 75W-140 in mine also, only Redline.

I went to the Dodge dealer, figuring I would get DC stuff if it wasn't too expensive, and the parts guy brought up that they also sell redline.

He also told me that they are recommending 75-140 if you do any heavy towing, and that it won't void the warranty (even though the book says 75W-90). He's running that in his personal truck.

Mainly, I wanted to make sure the warranty on the dif. would still be in effect, and a little extra margin of protection couldn't hurt.

It's been in about 7k with no problem.

P.S. They also changed the oil level in the 11.5" rear end to 3/4" to 1 1/4" below bottom of fill plug, which is different from what the book says that came with early 03's.

Is that qts or pts? I just want to buy enough oil when I go to the parts house. I am about 20 miles from nearest Store. 10.5 aam rear end capacity.

4.75 pints, or; 2.25 Liters for those metrically inclined.

3 quarts should do it.

When I did my truck, the diffs and transmission cases took what the book said they would, but my xfer case took a little more than what the book said.
