Drop in Airfilter vs CIA
OK guys and gals. I am looking at a CAI vs. drop in air filter. The things I know I want is a non oiled filter and something that is gonna flow better than stock. I am looking online at the AFE CIA set up but they have several to choose from and is it worth the dough over just a drop in air filter. Let me know what some of you think.
Thanks

Do you have a box or programer bumoing up power ? The stock box actually flow pretty good unless you start getting heavy on the mods. I dropped in an Amsoil EEA filter and put a 4" PVC elbow on the bottom of the box. Pretty cheap and works well. Oh yeah, I also used a 5.5" piece of aluminum pipe to replace the factory tube with baffles.

What about making a BHAF, that way you still have a dry filter and for about the same money as a drop in.

Because:
Holdover from bygone days when the stock airbox was not too good, would be my answer. If you are not pulling down the Filterminder, your airflow is good. It's only going to use as much air as it needs, no more.

I've seen and heard on the forums that the stock airbox is suppose to be good enough for most people, but mine pulls the filter minder down (new OEM filter) on a completely stock truck if I'm pulling a load. Will a cone type drop in that fits in the stock box such as the one AFE sells help with this problem? My brother in laws truck does this also.

I started with the Amsoil EAU dry filter with a 3" tube coming off the bottom of the stock box. Basically the same DIY talked about on DTR all the time. Really liked the EAU until I got back from a week of hunting in semi dusty conditions and when I went to change the oil found the filter minder pull 1/2 way down. Vacuumed and knocked out the loose dirt but decided to go back to my AFE PG7 oil drop in filter and use the EAU as a backup. Never had an issue with my PG7 regardless of conditions. Cut a hole in the bottom of your box, attach a drain cap from home depot and a hose onto that about 2.5ft long and add a drop in aftermarket filter like the EAU or PG7. Cheaper than a full aftermarket setup. I also run a 4" straight tube DIY to the turbo. Got all my stuff from here for the tube.
