donaldson on a stocker

Anyone have the short Donaldson muffler on a stock 03 exhaust system? I want something to help the flow and a little performance but I don't see the need to change everything...So I was going to change the muffler and put on a 41"(?) Donaldson... I see a lot of people put the 51" on but that is with 5" usually. I haven't seen anything about people using the shorter one on a stock 4" pipe. Are they louder? Do they drone? Do they improve flow? Do they help the turbo sing?

Thanks

I have the 40" nelson on mine. I have the stock down pipe, then installed 4" to the muffler, then the stock 4" tail pipe. It is a louder, throatier sound. I don`t think I have much of a drone, only noticeble when pulling hard. I think it helps with the exhaust temps. Don`t think the turbo sounds much different.Am happy with how it all turned out.

Installed 4" to the muffler? I thought it was already 4" all the way? Maybe I need to measure more than just the tailpipe...

Yeh, 3.5 from turbo to muffler then just out of muffler expands to 4". From the first joint after turbo , I installed a 3.5 to 4" adapter and went from there.

So if I wanted to change my down pipe to muffler what do I do? Does anyone have just that section of pipe or do I need to get an entire kit (mbrp or magnaflow or whatever) that comes with a tailpipe I don't need and a muffler I don't want?

I have the Donaldson 40", it has less attenuation than the 51". I had a little drone above 2500 when towing. I added a mega-cab resonator and all is well now.
