Does your truck have 4" pipe? I took out the cat and muff and the drone was horrible when pulling at highway speeds. I put a muffler in mine. Kinda made me feel old I straight pipe all my trucks as soon as I get em but the drone was too much to bear.

just did the muffler delete on my truck and left cat there. Sounds great. Defitnetly recommend it if your just looking for that good ole Cummins sound without killing everybody around you..haha.

the 2005 does not have a resonator. When I put on my muffler delete pipe I found if the the tip is pointing downward at all towards the ground, the drone is louder. When I finally had hangers welded on (I just used metal straps to hold in place for a few months) I had the shop ensure the tip was horizontal to the ground pointing straight out the side and the drone was barely noticeable at least to me. I do see heads turn though as I go down the street, especially when I stomp it...
I just towed 600 miles with a 12,000# load for the first time with my muffler delete.
The muffler delete just made it so you can hear when the engine is working, but it's not intrusive at all.

I just had a diesel shop guy tell me to delete the cat and leave the muffler. Is it just for noise reduction to leave the cat? Isn't the cat more restrictive than the muffler?
According to info found on the Carson Dodge site, the CAT has about a 1/2 lb back pressure. I do not know what the restriction is concerning the muffler, but it IS much more than the CAT. I left the CAT on simply because leaving it there did not pose any problems with the EPA, DOT, environmental stuff or warranty. Removing the CAT can cause some deep doo-doo with your warranty.
If you have a Mega Cab, you have the resonator, it by itself should help to decrease the noise level, but, at a high RPM it WILL exceed the police noise meters. When the CAT is left in it does not exceed the noise levels, comes close, but keep you legal in that aspect.
I DO like the ehaust tone w/o the muffler, not too loud, is noticable, but not to the point where I would be motivated into installing a high-flow muffler. It did help to lower my EGT's both empty and towing, and that was my primary purpose for installing the ME.

. It is not so loud that it is annoying. It smells a lot better as well.
