Cool morning starts.

I know its not time to start worrying about this yet, but i am new to diesels and know that you have to do it right when starting on cold mornings. I dont think my truck has a block heater, so what should i do when the cold months roll around. due to not enough garage space at home i cant park inside, and once school starts back i wont be able to park inside either. So what would yall reccomend?

All these trucks with a cummins have block heaters. You might, however, have to buy the cord if you don't have one.

i have been in TN for just over a year now and had no issues. make sure to cycle your grid heater on those frosty mornings and everything should be fine. i would consider pluging in on the days we get ice, just to help with cab heat. also please fill out your sig so we can see what you got.

If I was a betting man I'd bet he has an 03/5.9/CTD

but yeah as said cycle the grid heaters once or twice, pluging in will give you almost instant heat, the mopar cold front covers the radiator to help it warm up quicker while driving, frequent short trips in the cold aren't the best for a diesel.

I agree that you should get a heater cord. The truck will start to 20 below but it just makes it so much easier on it to warm it up on cold mornings (freezing or below).

Also, I noticed a lot smoother cold start running Shell Rotella 5w40 over regular Rotella 15w40 oil. (not that it gets that cold here in Texas)
