Contaminated Fuel
Contaminated Fuel
So, after reading several posts about new injectors, lines, pumps etc, I thought I would throw in my two cents.
I work in the pharmaceutical and biotech filter world and have a problem with Dodge service guys saying that contaminated fuel ruined an engine.
When a filter clogs, nothing goes through it - even if it's an old filter. Filters don't typically spring a leak because they've been in use too long, they clog up. If Dodge's filter is appropriately sized (in microns) then anything that goes through it is acceptable to Dodge.
Is sand getting through your filter??? I doubt it - the smallest particles of sand are about 1/16 mm in size. 1/16 mm = 0.0625mm = 62.5 microns. Pretty big to go through a 5 micron fuel filter.
If Dodge tells you that contaminated fuel ruined your engine, I would make them give me the details on what was in it. You can also have your old filter tested to see what size particles will go through it (compare it to a new one and you'll be suprised).
If you have questions or need resources, let me know - I would rather spend a couple of hundred bucks on a particle size distribution than 6K on engine parts.

This makes alot of sense. but its the legal mumbo-jumbo you have to jump threw.
Dodge doesnt havnt to proove that there was contaminated fuel, all they have to do is suspect it. Its up to the owner to proove that the fuel was not contaminated.
A close friend of mine had something just like this happen to him, but with a oil filter.
The truck all of a sudden started bellowing smoke at idle. My friend took it to the dealership and they said that the fram oil filter he used on the truck failed which caused the problem. My friend sent the filter to fram for testing and they said that the filter did not fail and would back him up in court. After speaking with a lawyer and crunching numbers, it would cost more to take dodge to court then to rebuild the engine.
