contaminated fuel ?

started truck on sunday morning and it was making a loud pinging rattle like the early 12 valve cummuns, started down the road and it would not go above 1500 rpms. i ran the code with my smarty jr it displayed HCRP high common rail pressure i took it to central dodge in springfeild mo and they told me i had contaminated fuel in which the warranty would not cover and the cost to fix the problem would be around 17,000.00 dollars to replace injectors injector pump all fuel lines and fuel tank, i asked a local diesel shop about the problem and he thought it could be the fuel pressure regulater DOES ANYONE HAVE AN IDEA WHAT MAY BE THE PROBLEM ?

Unfortunately, I have been hearing this" contaminated fuel" story too often. It seems to me to be an "out" for Dodge in handling the warranty claims. My brother in law has one in his shop right now that the owner was told the same thing and warranty was denied. They wanted $15k+ to repair at the dealership. The owner had it towed to my BIL's shop and it is being repaired. The owner did not want to wait for any further diagnosis and dropped off $5000 and told them to get all new fuel system parts, install them and call him ASAP. He evidently needs his truck right now and does not want to wait or for this to happen again by not replacing all parts. He is trying to make a claim on his insurance. I have no idea how that will go.

I think if it were me, I would ask ( THE DEALERSHIP) how and where the fuel sample was taken, how was it determined that this sample was contaminated fuel, How did the fuel get contaminated ( was it bought that way), if the engineered design of the fuel tank vents could have lead to such contamination, why did the fuel filter system engineered by dodge not prevent this from happening, why dodge did not spec a filter such as recommended by the manufacturer of the injection system components, and lastly if they would care to sign an affidavit saying they witnessed me pulling a sample at their facility that I may use in court after it is determined by an independent lab what the quality of fuel actually is. If it is bad, do you have a receipt where you purchased the fuel?

Get a fuel sample and get it tested cost is about $50.

$10,000 for parts and about 2 days labour to replace your fuel system.

I Have An Update,i Had My Truck Towed To Baileys Diesel In Nixa Mo. And They Fixed Me Up With A Fuel Pressure Regulator For 300.00 And Truck Runs Fine. The Fuel That The Dealership Said Was Contaminated Was Clean So I Think We Have A Problem And I Need To Contact A Local News Station And Have A Little Fun?

If the fuel is clean, send Dodge the bill and tell them want was told to you by the dealership. Do the fuel sample and have it witnessed by a Police guy or a CPA. Thats if your still in warranty.

Make the claim, contact a lawyer just in case and let her eat pete!!

WELL THE TRUCK DID RUN FINE FOR ABOUT 100 MILES AND WHEN I STARTED IT UP ON SATERDAY MORNING THE SAMETHING HAPPENED RUNS RUFF, LOUD AND SHAKES ALOT. I RETURNED IT TO BAILLIES AND THEY RECOMMENDED I GET A REFLASH AND WOULD NEED TO TAKE IT TO A DEALER FOR THAT. I TOOK IT TO A DEALER 60 MILES AWAY AND HAD IT DONE AND THE MECHANIC SAID IT MADE NO DIFFERANCE AND THOUGHT IT NEEDED A FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR BECAUSE THE CP3 WAS PUTING OUT MAX PRESSURE.(HOW EVER MUCH THAT IS ?)ORDERED THE SENSOR AND INSTALLED YESTERDAY AND AGAIN IT RUNS THE SAME NOW HE IS TELLING ME THAT I MAY NEED AN ECM AND IT IS ON BACK ORDER AND COULD TAKE 4-6 WEEKS TO GET BUT IT WOULD BE COVERED BY WARRANTY

Test Results Came Today And Were Normal Across The Board,i Was Thinking If Anyone Could Tell Me If Diagnosing These Trucks Is Pretty Complicated? With The Diagnostic Computers And Such I Would Think That Would Do Away With Parts Changing And Maybe Getting Lucky When The Right Part Is Finally Changed Out. Just Wondering?

just because they have the title of diesel mechanic does not mean they know anything about the truck. i have been to several dealerships and i knew way more than the mechanic. all i have to say is that you need to learn as much as possible about your truck. good luck

I GOT MY TRUCK BACK THIS WEEK AND IS RUNNING BETTER THAN IT DID THE DAY I BOUGHT IT. OVER HEAD SAYS 22.8 MPG AT 60 MPH I GUESS THE ECM WAS THE PROBLEM ALL ALONG. I PAID A VISIT TO THE FIRST DEALER AND TOLD THEM WHAT I HAD DONE ABOUT GETTING MY TRUCK FIXED AT ANOTHER DEALER AND THAT THERE DIAGNOSES OF CONTAMINATED FUEL WAS WAY OFF AND IF THAY CHOOSE TO NOT PAY FOR THE CHARGES AT BAILLEYS DEISEL AND TWO TOW TRUCK CHARGES I WOULD FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE BETTER BUISNESS BUREU. I ALSO HAD MY FUEL TEST RESULTS WITH ME AND TOLD THEM IF THEY WERE TELLING PEOPLE THAT CONTAMINATED FUEL WAS THE REASON THAT THERE TRUCK WAS NOT RUNNING PROPERLY THAY HAD BETTER HAVE THE CONTAMINATION TEST DONE ON THE FUEL TO SHOW THE CUSTOMER. THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID HE WAS NOT AWARE OF A TESTING LAB IN OUR AREA. SO I QUICKLY EDUCATED HIM ON THIS WITH ADDRESS AND PHONE NUMBER. HE DID SAY THAT HE WAS SORRY THAT THIS HAPPENED AND THAT HE MAY HAVE A PROBLEM INSIDE THE SERVICE DEPT. AND WOULD CHECK WITH CORPORATE ABOUT PAYING FOR CHARGES. BEEN 4 DAYS NOW HAVENT HEARD A WORD

I'm glad you got it fixed. That dealer looks like dog dew. A little post in the newpaper could be in order!
