Clutch advice pls!
Clutch advice pls!
I'm trying to be proactive with my clutch. It's close to going. Been on all the sites..SBend, Centerforce, Luk, Valair, Valeo, Sachs. I don't do alot of heavy towing, but do carry some loads occasionally. Since I have the Banks 6 gun, I want more holding power than stock..but don't need a super hd clutch. Been reading that O-Fe is the way to go.
Honestly if the only thing you're going to run is the 6 gun, and you're not planning on towing heavy with it turne-up, the upgraded SB or Valair organic is the best choice. Smooth engagement, better components than stock, and it'll still hold a bit more power. The O-Fe is a great clutch, but its engagement is not what you could call smooth, and anything stronger is much, much worse. I'm running a Kevlar/Ceramic Valair, and while it's not unbearable, it's still a bit of work to back a loaded trailer and my u-joints are paying the price. Also ensure you do the slave cylinder upgrade if you get anything stronger than stock; it'll save you a bunch of aggravation in the long run.
Appreciate the help. My dilemna is that I want and may need the ability to tow heavy in the future, but want something that has somewhat smooth engagement. The only thing I tow now is a Triton 3 place ATV trailer with my quads.
Call and talk to peter at southbend he will point you in the right direction.
I am running a sb3250 dual disk and as long as I use low range to back a trailer its not a major problem.
Just my .02 cents.

If you want a good single disk the SouthBend MU 1947 Con-OFE is a great choice!!!! I have it in my trans and other than being really grabby for 2nd take-offs and backing up (4wd makes this a breeze) it's an awesome clutch.
I'd do it all over again if I had to!! Price is very reasonable as well.

Call South Bend and talk to them about their new SDD3250, dual disc/dual friction. All of the reviews from the guys initially running it have been great. I have one ordered for my 2002. Not sure exactly when install will take place.
