Burning oil...Figured it out

My truck has always burned oil since I bought it in 05 with 135,000 miles on it. It wasn't much, just enough that you could see a lil smoke out the exhaust in the right light. Well at 204,000 miles I pulled the engine and rebuilt it for a separate reason. I checked the rings and they were all still good enough to re use. (of course I used new ones)
I now had a rebuilt engine and the haze was still there. I assumed it was just that the rings needed to break in. 5,000 miles later still hazing.

Then it happened....Got stuck in the mud, over revved it to get out, and ended up with alot of oil burning smoke pouring out the stacks. I drove the truck for 2 more days leaving light clouds of smoke as I drove. Then the turbo started telling me it was leaving and left me more smoke.
So.... the burning oil was not the engine, but was the turbo leaking oil.
Not sure if it was leaking into the intake or the exhaust, But I know that during its last 2 days it was puking oil both places.

Hopefully if someone does a search on "why am I burning oil", they come across this and check the turbo. It's definately not something I even thought about.

Just be thankful it didn't run away on you. Seen that happen before and it's a very ugly situation. It'll free rev until it runs out of oil.

Never seen it on a Cummins though. Happened to me on a power-stroke and it was chaos to the extreme. Also saw it in school on a Detroit 6v53 .. Man that was awesome...

Very Simple,
Calmly unbolt one of the many intake hosing boot clamps and sepatare the intake. Engine stops right away.

You never looked in any of the pipes when changing the air filter ? how about when taking the motor out there should have been oil in them .

that is an extremely bad idea get as far as you can that motor can very easly spin fast enough when running away to send a connecting rod striaght through your body.

That sure would suck to not have tools. sharp knife maybe ??
Ohh and if this were to happen, I think I would take the chance and try to stop it to save myself 10 grand.

No oil near the air filter.
Also, it wasn't leaking THAT bad at first. I am assuming it was going out the exhaust first.
