BFGoodrich A/T or M/T?

I have a 06 dodge 2500. I am currently running BFG A/T ko 315/70/17's on my truck and absolutely love them. The tires are right at 50k miles with a little life left. I have NEVER rotated them. I'm planning on buy some new ones soon.

I have the cash in hand to do this.... but the MT's have been tempting me. I would like to have a little more aggressive looking/working tire.

What kind of tire life would I expect out of the MT's vs the AT's?

I don't want to go against what has been a perfect tire for me to something will not last near as long.

I would only run M/Ts if you run in a lot of mud. The ATs are virtually worthless in sticky mud (and I'm sure you already know this since you've been running them).

Running mud tires as pavement pounders or for light off-roading never made much sense to me. In mud and snow, they make perfect sense.

I run mainly on pavement but do go off the beaten path from time to time. I live in Kansas so I do see my share of snow and a lot of ice. I haven't had much trouble with mud because we have a sand mud mix where I live. I have a led foot so generally I don't get to bogged down in mud holes.

I have a friend who has a 2003 Dodge 2500 4x4 and he bought his truck with BFG M/T's on it with 65,000 miles and he now has 95,000 miles and the tires have very little wear on them at all. Probably at least another 20k on them if not more. Hope that helps

Have any of you guys running the bfg at notice any "edge wear" on your bfg's after high mileage. Just recently I have noticed the inside edges experiencing more wear. I don't think its alignment because my back tires are doing the same... Under inflated??? I may not have rotated them but I have kept them at 45-50psi.

Granted I have 50k miles and this is a heavy truck. I'm not complaining at all.
Just curious

I have had very poor luck with the bfg at's. Also had the 'edg wear' and was not able to remedy it with pressure adj. or religous rotation. Stepped up to Yokohama (sp?) Geolanders 315 70 17 and loving them so far. Cooler looking tire, too, IMO. I agree with others here, MT's are crappy daily drivers. Stick with a heavily siped AT for superior ice and snow traction.

I ran 285/70/17 BFG TA KO ATs for 50K miles. Then switched to the BFG KM2 MTs....35's. I love the look of the KM2s but finally started developing a bad vibration at almost 40K miles. I took them to have them balanced again but it was still there. A couple of the tires were WAYYY out of balance. They can only do so much with them since they are big heavy tires.

I switched to Nitto Terra Grappler 285/75/17.......taller than the 285/70s but slightly less diameter and thinner than the 35's. These are an all terrain tire and I am very happy with them so far. Very very smooth compared to the KM2s.

My opinion.....is stick to the AT unless you just gotta have a MT for looks or do a WHOLE lot of off-roading. I think the BFG TA KOs are good tires. But I like the Nitto Terra Grapplers too.

Congrats, you will be fine with them. You already were!

Also, I know you don't post much. But you may want to modify your last post and remove a certain word before a moderator does it for you.

Compared to the BFG KM2s.........the TGrapplers are quiet as can be. That is to be expected though I guess.......AT vs MT and the ATs being a new tire.

I enjoyed the KM2s.....when i had them. They just won't last as long as an AT and you have to put up with road noise.

I love the Smarty stacked with the MP8. I think considering my engine is otherwise stock.....stock original injectors, cp3, turbo.....506hp is pretty good. it has actually made higher on different dynos.

and I ran the 1/8th mile several times with it...Most in the 8.70 range with a best of 8.48 seconds. Not to shabby for a 8200lb truck with 35'' mud terrains.

BFG is supposedly coming out with a 285/75-17 AT E Rated. I always liked the ATs, but went with the Toyo's for the size and load rating.

I just went from a Toyo 35x12.50x17 MT to a BFG AT KO 315/70/17. I miss the mud tire look, but that's about it. No more mud tires for me. AT tires do so much better in the sand than mud tires.

That's what I always thought too. Grew up in AZ, lots of sand, and the mud tires always seemed way too aggressive to me and they'd dig down in the sand too fast and bog everything down.

Mud tires are really good in.....mud.
