I also have been running the Amsoil EaA for three years now with great UOA results. This is the dry filter and is a direct drop in. I also modded the airbox. It is very easy to clean too.

I also have the (new/tall) 53034249AA air filter on my truck... Keep in mind that the reason to switch to this filter is to increase the service interval. The deeper pleats can hold more dust, but they do not offer appreciably more flow than the old (short) filter.
Since it looks like your motor is otherwise stock, my $.02 would be to switch to new style filter when it's time to replace the old one and keep the airbox stock (the factory airbox is pretty good too).
Cheers

My personal experience is to stay away from the Amsoil, too restrictive- sucks the filter minder right down with a stock airbox, and returns lousy HP and mileage. Amsoil might offer great protection, but so would a thick plastic bag over the intake.

I like the deep Napa Gold/Wix the best for performance and MPGs. Am currently running an AC Delco- supposed to be a good compromise between performance and protection- but expen$ive.

So being I can suck the filter minder down in to the red with a new Fleetguard air filter does that mean it to is to restrictive and they to should be avoided? I wish more people would learn that the filter mind is all most a Joke and to not rely on it as being 100% accurate. IIRC unless you are putting out more then 425 HP the stock air box using a quality paper air filter will supply all the clean air the engine needs unless you have $$$ to burn or just want bling to look at under the hood.

Well, if you pull the air minder down, then the motor at 1 point was starving for air.

I'd be interested to see if the new deep dodge filter allows more air. I'd like to hear if the filter minder pulls down when this new filter is installed.
You guys all know what I run, I'm not looking for anything better, just curious as to it's efficiency.

My Amsoil dry flat panel ended the filterminder movement. Doing the psm downtube deal kept the filterminder in place even with a filthy AFE PG7. I had 16,000 on it. Never again. I don't think I'd depend on the filterminder for anything. I'm back to a cheap Geno's Fleetguard
