Suprisingly the stock filter is one of the best you can buy. If you really feel the need to change then try a PSM system. Cheap, effective and it works well. If you don't have 500+hp you really don't see much gain from an aftermarket system. Those high dollar systems are nice to talk about, you get a decal for your truck and you probably just wasted about $400-$500 you could have used on something else. IMO.

I did the mod on my air box, worked fine, in the last 2 weeks I put on a S&B cold air intake, you get a little more whistle but I also got maybe 1/2 to 1 more miles per gallon on the intersatate, time will tell with this, only 2 tanks thru it so far. good luck

X3.......on modding stock air box and going with the PSM mod. None of the aftermarket filters come close to matching the filtering efficiency of the factory/Fleetgaurd filters. And this setup is good up to around 500 rwhp and based on your signature you're nowhere near that.

I had a thread, a while back, on the new taller filter for the factory airbox. I bought some and love them. I never see smoke after I punch-it, and I noticed my milage went up .5-.7 MPG. They cost about $26.00 a piece.

Fleetguard air filters at Genos are only $14.95 its the same as the Mopar air filter but they cost $26.95. They also have the one bigger air filter for the 6.7 at $29.95.

I run a Pro Guard 7. It doesn't get sucked in if it gets wet. I don't like the oil but turbos don't like paper.

I called Genos about getting the new 5.9 deeper filter. They were unaware of it's existence. Hopefully, with enough interest they can offer some at a good price.

I have been running the Amsoil, with good UOA results. It traps a TON of dust, it does require cleaning often, but I guess that means its working.

I hope amsoil makes a new deper one.
