2005 dodges 2500, smarty JR running economy, turbo back exhaust other than that it is stock!

Drove from Oklahoma city to Fort Worth TX on Saturday (about 200 or so miles) no issues along the way. Filled up the gas when we arrived in Fort worth (did not shut truck off). When we got to the hotel looking back I think I heard the knocking at or just above idle and thought nothing of it. Woke the next morning to drive off and the truck took an extensive amount of time to crank her up and when she did start large plume of smoke came out and had a very rough idle. Once warm seemed to be better at lower speeds/RPMs and seemed just fine at higher speeds/RPMs. Milked the truck home at lower than usual speeds (65 mph) with no issues. Upon arrival shut down and restarted and it took a long time to crank her up again. Spoke with a buddy and he through the bad injector thing out and I figured I would take care of it this week. Well tonight after sitting for over 24 hours I cranked it up and it again took a long time to start and once she did there was no response to the throttle at all with a very terrible, almost cutting off, idle. Needless to say she is not going anywhere. Did some reading on here and read about the wire by the AC compressor and mine is just fine. No water in the fuel and I changed the filter in Fort worth when I initially had the problem. Are there any checks I can do before taking it into the shop?

 

You have a bad injector no doubt in my mind. Check for codes with the key on/ off x3 trick.

ALSO check your oil for fuel, you will know by smell and if your oil level has raised.

Do a search for FCA and cascade overflow valve I recently had similar issues and turned out to be a combination caused by bad fuel.

 

Small update, The truck starts, takes a while to crank. once running the idle is so sporadic that it sounds like a harley. First time started today it actually died, check engine light came on and it popped a code 0251. Next time I started it up it did not pop a code, or the third so I think when it died after start that is what popped the 0251. What do you think? It will never get passed the rough idle, throttle is totally unresponsive.

Unleaded Gas in the tank. It seems the gas station I filled up with must have had some gas in their diesel. I know I am very capable of screwing this up, it was late at night I was on the road etc etc. However, The technician at the *********** said there is no way I could have made it down the road especially 250 miles on a whole tank of gasoline. So I drained the tank myself (actually "Jaybone" above did while I was at work, what a cool friend I have), put 10 gallons of diesel in the tank and 2 quarts of 2 stroke oil, ran the key continuously until the fuel filter bowl was blue and started her up. Runnin just fine. I am sure there will be some long term effects, hoping not though. Now I have to go after the gas station. Sucks the reciept did not print and I did not go to the clerk and get one.

 

Im glad you came back and posted the "end result" of the problem. So many never do and we all guess as to what the issue was.
