I should know this - Duramax belching white and blue smoke at idle.

I was behind it on 11 - no smoke at all, didn't know it was a diesel. We come to a stop and this thing is belching smoke all over the place - he takes off, lets out a larger puff of white and blue - no black and it clears up again.

Probably one with the LB7 which had serious injector issues. Some would last 150,000 miles, others 800 miles. And to get at the injectors you have to pull the valve covers. Kind of sad that nobody noticed this before they released it, also sad because the injectors are made by Bosch if I remember correctly and they usually make good stuff.

Exactly why G.M went to 2 micron filtration. They also warrantied the injectors in the LB7 for 200k. My cousins 04 Duramax did the same thing, it wound up being a couple injectors and a head gasket.

Actually it was and is true. What happens to steel subjected to extremely high hydraulic pressure with fine particulate matter mixed with the liquid?

I have my own theories, but I cant prove them in any way.
Bottom line; its not dirty fuel that causes them to fail, that is 100% proven fact.
