2004.5 exhaust recommendation, best cost?
2004.5 exhaust recommendation, best cost?
I have a 2004.5 (325hp). The tail pipe rusted off the muffler. Basically I need to replace the muffler. I believe the pipe both ways is still good. Wondering where a good place to get a new muffler is?
I am considering a straight pipe... but not sure. Love the sound of my 1999 and my old 1994. Not as much of a fan of the common rail straight pipe. Should I remove the resonator? Want to keep fairly quiet.
I don't need a major performance upgrade. Just a little would be nice. I have some egt problems but not bad. Plus I run an edge and I know they run a little hot.
Thanks,
Dave

i dont have a muff so i dont know. but i would just search and see what best price is, maybe you can find a nice used one on craigs list. if you want a different sound then i would try and listen to different trucks and see what sound you like the best. my truck came 5" straight piped and its very loud when i really get on it. i dont like it, plus i like the sound of 4" straight pipe better. there will be a very slight if any performance difference until you get lots and lots of ponies.
I had a 4'' flo-pro exh. that i kept when i sold my 98.5. So when i got my 04.5 and the muff. had a hole and the tail pipe was buggered up.... i had a plan!
i reused the down pipe as these are diff. from 2nd. to 3rd. gen... I had to modify the hangers and tail pc. but no prob.... i have a miller mig. welder.
If you want noise with out drone.... get a 30'' FTE resonator, lots of folks really like this. I'm useing this plus a 24'' flo-pro straight through muff. that came with the flo-pro kit.
My kittie is in the corner.
Sound is def. more then stock with out being obnoxius.... Just use the res. if you want noise with out drone and with out the raw straight pipe beller.
When i dropped the stock muff. i got drone. The cat also helps with noise if it needs to stay on, but i found that it didnt help with drone. wish you well! The CR Rams differ mostly with 'under-hood' sound. Exh. can still be LOUD!
Dont be afraid to ask!, lots of folks have after market exh. and lots of expensive lessons learned.

How long do you intend to keep your truck? That question is important because cost is relative. When I got my truck new, I changed the exhaust before I drove it 100 miles. I bought a complete 4"stainless system from Banks complete with stainless 4" glasspack through flow muffler. It is as good now as when new 10 yrs. later. In my case, the cost of it has paid off many times over.
I'm kind of in the same boat. Mine is a 4" stock down pipe with 5" cat back (w/o cat) to a 5" inlet/outlet glass pack with a 4" ring in the center as sort of a baffle. Sounds good idking but otherwisempretty crappy. It was what was lying around my father in law's muffler shop at the time.
Among other things. I was considering a stainless diamond eye 4" system with their quiet tone resonator. Anyone have any luck with those? Also heard good things about hushpower and the donaldsons.
Looking for a nice glass pack sound without the drone. It's killer on road trips. Figured the first step would be to get rid of the 5" megaphone!

You sound like a perfect person for a Donaldson, the 5" model should run you about $65.00 and you'll need to 5"/4" reducers, then just someone to install it or a couple band clamps and install it yourself... Should get it done for right at $100
The Donaldson part number is in my sig... I love the set-up..
