I just purchased an 06 Mega with the 5.9 and I am looking for a recommendation for an exhaust kit. What are most of you guys running on your 5.9's? I want to run a kit from the turbo back. Here are my questions?

1. 4" inch or 5" inch? Pros and cons of each?
2. cat left on or removed?
3. Muffler on or no muffler?

I used to run a 5" kit on an 04 ford powerstroke without the cat but with the muffler (flow thru) and I loved the sound of it because it sounded like a jet not a tractor. What set up would allow me to accomplish the same sound?

Anyone here that went with a 5" kit and then regretted it because it was too load?

well i don't think you will get the jet sound you want from a cummins. it will sound more like a semi. as long as you are running the stock turbo a 4 inch would be good, but i would for sure get rid of the cat. i would get rid of the muffler too, but it is up to you. it sounds good with the muffler, not to loud until you crack it open. it sounds amazing though straight piped, especially when you are WFO.

My dad has the MBRP cat delete, and a straight through banks muffler on his stock exhaust, and it sounds sweet at open throttle but is very quiet running 70mph on the highway (no drone ).

 

My brother was big into 6.0's (had 3 of them) and to me a cummins will never sound as good. No matter what exhaust they all sound like my brothers straight piped JD's lol.
For stock turbo I really like the sound of a 5 inch with no cat and a 5050 aero turbine. Loud but not to annoying.
If you want a quiet truck go 4inch still ditch the cat and go with a big muffler like a donaldson.
