2 Questions

One of the great things about this board is the amount of knowledge available.

So here goes, 1st Question...

I have never seen my "grid light" on. The one that preheats the intake air. I live near Atlanta and bought the truck this summer. When I test the gauges and lights the grid heater light tests OK. But when I turn the key on when the engine is cold the light has never turned on. The truck always start fine hot or cold but I wonder how it will act when the weather gets colder. My "other" 5.9 ISB motor home (99) always turns on when the engine is cold.

2nd question, has anyone heard about the "turbo's impeller" adjuster sticking? I'm not sure what its called but I heard from a guy today that the adjustable protion of the turbo has had sticking problems. He said when it sticks it the truck gets "lazy" it still boost correctly but slower.

Those are the questions. Anyone have any answers?

Thanks in advance, Whalecap

What year truck? Fill out your sig.

Q1 if it is an 06 it has not been cool enough for your grid heater light to come on. Wait till later in the year, I think when the temp gets down to about 50 it should start lightin up.

Q2 I have no idea maybe someone else can help

For some reason on the 06 trucks, the grid heater light only comes on when the temps are cool. Previous models, the light comes on every time but will go off in a second or two if the temps are warm.

I don't know why DC changed it. Personally, I would rather have it come on every time just so I would stay in the habit of looking for it.

I can't answer the question about the turbo impeller either...sorry. Don't recall ever reading any problem with one on this forum.

For the 2nd question the guy must think your turbo is a variable vane style like the Duramax and the Ford 6.0. The 5.9 Cummins has a non VVT. So no issues there.

Thanks for the info guys. I could have sworn the 06 was VVT but that's why this board is so helpful.

My 06 grid light comes on every time you turn the key regardless of the temp.

He must think you have a ford. Ditto on MikeyB comment.
