12 Valve Conversion

Is it possible to retain the 3rd gen shortblock and retrofit the 12 valve heads, pump, turbo etc in our 3rd gen trucks? Has anyone made this conversion, or simply replaced the entire 3rd gen ISBe with a 12 valve engine?

Any guidance to a webpage or vendor for doing something like this?

Thanks!

Jeff Garmon at Garmons Diesel in Mcdonough GA has done a number of trucks like these where he retrofits a 12v motor. 770-898-8585

Why would you want to? Not saying there is anything wrong with the 12V, just that the 24V 3rd gen seems fine. Wouldn't buying a 2nd gen 12V be as cheap or cheaper? Just curious, not slamming your idea or anything.

Id do it if I could afford the downtime.

Better fuel mileage, easier to work on, relatively cheaper to modify, replacement parts much cheaper, etc.
It would be EASIER to buy a 12valve truck, but whats the fun in that?

Id love to swap a 12v/nv4500 into my truck!

Why do a 12 valve conversion when you can keep the 24 valve head and do a P-pump conversion and have the best of both worlds?

^ That is what I have been wondering! With the threat of the end of the world and all, and with the thought of an EMP killing anything computerized, I have been thinking about this in the back of my head. I was just going to put a cummins in an old Power Wagon or somthing though. Someone here has done that. Wish I could remember who!
