05 Problems

I just wanted to see what you fellas thought. I just bought my 05 2500 swb 4x4 6spd and when the transmission is cold I have a noticable grind going into 3rd and 5th. Once the tranny warms up it seems to go away. I only have 500 miles on the truck but I think this is a synchronizer problem so it shouldnt get better with miles. I also went to start my truck this morning and the throwout bearing was making a loud squealing noise. I could push the clutch in and it would go away let off and it would come back. Lasted for about 45 seconds and went away for the rest of the day. Just wanted to see if any of yall have ran into these problems. Sorry for being so long winded.

First of all, the NV 5600 is a very heavy duty transmission. The grinds you are talking about are common, especially being that your truck is so new. The grinding is caused by lack of lubrication when the trans is cold. The gear oil simply hasn't had time to make it up to the synchros in the top of the trans. The squealing isn't the throwout bearing as it is only engaged when the clutch pedal is pushed IN. If your squeal went away with the clutch IN then your sqeal is coming from something else. The NV 5600 will make some noticeable noise (gear rollover) due to its heavy design. Let it break in a little, you will notice in the next 5k miles that it will loosen up considerably. Then change the fluid to something better, and you will notice a world of difference. Also if you want to keep it from grinding, the only way is to put the Tranfer case in Neutral and put the tranny in a high gear to circulate some oil before leaving the driveway...

Hey you may want to take it to the dealer and have them verify that it has oil in the tranny. There have been a few that were LOW on oil

The Power Steering may have been squealing, if it was extremely cold where you are? No sig?

Yes, normal grind for the trans when cold. You can always drain the factory stuff out and put something good like Redline MTL, as a bunch of us have, in it!
